Nintendo 3DS Sports Two CPUs, One GPU

Nintendo had announced a new 3DS handheld game console earlier this year at the E3 Game convention, but hardware specifications of the console remained a mystery until now. Nintendo 3DS Sports Two CPUs, One GPU

IGN has reported that the console will have two CPUs and one GPU along with 1.5GB of flash storage. Apparently people familiar with the hardware shared details on the condition of anonymity.

According to IGN's reports, Nintendo 3DS will have ARM11 architecture based CPUs that were also used in iPhone and Zune models. Nintendo has packed two 266MHz ARM11 microarchitecture based processors and 133MHz GPU with 4MB dedicated video memory. This handheld console also packs 64MB RAM and 1.5GB flash storage to store downloaded games. This is substantially larger than the previous generation DSi models.

However, this will make Nintendo 3DS at par with current PSPgo handheld game console that has a 333MHz MIPS chip. As of now these hardware specifications are not officially confirmed but we surely do know that the internals would be powerful enough to support 3D function.

Mad Catz to Replace Locked-out PS3 Controllers

Sony's PlayStation 3 firmware update 3.50 reportedly nixed several counterfeit and Mad Catz control pads. Mad Catz Interactive has acknowledged the issue and announced that it will offer replacements for the affected control pads. Now that's what you call taking up responsibility.

New firmware 3.50 made several third party game pads, controllers and other accessories non-functional for PlayStation 3. Sony also issued a directive that the game console will no longer support "counterfeit" controllers and game pads.

Mad Catz, on the other hand, is involved in official game pads for PS3 console like the Street Fighter IV FightSticks and Wireless FightPads, Call of Duty range of controllers and accessories and the Rock Band accessories.  Here's the company's official statement:

"Mad Catz would like to take this opportunity to put gamers' minds at ease.  With the exception of a small quantity of controllers sold before 2008, we believe that all Mad Catz products will continue to function as they did prior to the 3.50 Firmware update including high profile products such as our range of Street Fighter IV FightSticks and Wireless FightPads; our range of controllers and accessories for Call of Duty; our Cyborg F.L.Y. 9 Wireless FlightStick; our wired and wireless control pads; and our range of Rock Band accessories.

Any consumer who owns a Mad Catz product and is experiencing an issue, including an issue with the PlayStation 3 Firmware update should contact Mad Catz customer services.  Providing the product is within warranty, Mad Catz will be happy to offer a suitable replacement.

  • Nintendo 3DS due in Japan on February 26

Nintendo held a press conference in Japan earlier today and announced (PDF) that the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console will be released on February 26, 2011 in the country. Several gaming enthusiasts and technology industry folks were aiming for its release during holiday season - Christmas time. A week back, we reported that this handheld console will have two 266MHz ARM11 architecture based processors and one GPU along with 64MB RAM and 1.5GB of flash storage. Certainly, it will serve to be a good competition to Sony's PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Portable Go handhelds.

The Stereo Camera that has two lenses is capable of taking 3D images. This would be the first handheld console that will sport Motion Sensor and Gyro sensors. In Sleep mode, Nintendo 3DS would be able to detect wireless access points with SpotPass feature and able to exchange data with other 3DS units with StreetPass feature.

The 3.02-inch touchscreen is capable of showing 320x240 pixel resolution imagery. Nintendo has added 2.4GHz band for Wi-Fi connectivity. In the bundle, Nintendo will add a 2GB memory card and stylus with the console.

Meet the All-New Apple iPod Nano

Suggested Indian Retail Prices of Apple iPod nano:
8GB Model - Rs. 10,700 (Inclusive of VAT)
    16GB Model - Rs. 12, 7000 (Inclusive of VAT)
Note that VAT and other taxes may vary for different regions

Apple's nano, a product line that came into existence as a replacement to the iPod Mini has since its introduction in 2005 underwent some really big changes. Currently in its sixth iteration, the Nano might just have underwent its most dramatic transition so far.

That s because Apple has just announced the all new iPod Nano at the 2010 Fall Event. The new Nano gets a 3.3 inch  1.54 inch touch screen display, it's more boxy now (remember the third generation version?) albeit with a much larger display area. Those who loved the longishness of the previous generation Nano along with its camera, well, its time to move on.

With Apple's products shrinking in size with each product refresh, why should the Nano be an exception? The New Nano is a whopping 46% tinier than the (already) tiny fifth generation Nano. The weight too has seen a drastic reduction. If it was featherweight earlier its literally weightless now.

If you were a fan of the click-wheel, be disappointed because that too has been scrapped. The touch-screen now takes up most of the front fascia. There are volume buttons on the side and a clip on at the rear the only hardware buttons on the device. Apple claims that the Nano can play music continuously for 24 hours till it runs out of steam. There would be two variants of the Nano in 8 and 16GB capacities both of which would be available in various color options. FM radio fans don't need to worry as the feature hasn't been given a miss.

In the US, the Nano 8GB will set you back by  $149 while the 16GB version  would sell for  $179. Oh and if you happen to be in the US, you can start buying these today! Lucky Yanks.

    New Apple TV Announced

Along with the new iPod Touch, the Shuffle and the Nano, Apple has also  announced an update to Apple TV which now ends up being lot cheaper than its predecessors.

The brand new Apple TV is capable of streaming HD movies (720p) and TV shows that can be  purchased from Apple's iTunes snd Netflix.  The first generation Apple TV which hasn't actually been a runaway success was priced at $299. The new one however is way cheaper at US$99. Apple has also tied up with content providers ABC and Fox and is already inking deals with other content providers for more content.

While not an international product like the other new launches today, Apple did give considerable weightage to Apple TV over the course of the event clearly indicating its intention to make a success out of it this time round. Whether they are able to do that is something that is yet to be seen.

    Samsung Unveils Galaxy Tab Tablet

Samsung has finally announced the much awaited Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 tablet at the ongoing IFA 2010 convention in Berlin, Germany. Loaded with Google's Android Froyo 2.2 operating system, this 7-inch touchscreen display bearing Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 will surely give a tough fight to the Apple iPad tablet. Capable of full HD videos playback, Galaxy Tab will also have Readers Hub app for eBook aficionados. Hassle free web browsing can be enjoyed, thanks to the Flash Player 10.1 support. Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 tablet will be available in Europe in two weeks from now and will be launched in US, Asia and Korea in the coming months. However, there's no word on the price of this tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 has 7-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display that supports 1024x600 WSVGA pixel resolution. It is disappointing that it doesn't carry an AMOLED screen.
Internally, Galaxy Tab houses practically the same hardware found in the Galaxy S GT-i9000 touchscreen smartphone. Just like the smartphone, the Galaxy Tab will run Android Froyo 2.2 update along with Android Market and Samsung Apps to download apps. Just like we reported earlier, the same 1.0GHz Cortex A8 Humming Bird application CPU with PowerVR SGX540 GPU remains at the heart of this tablet.
Packing 512MB RAM, Samsung will offer the Galaxy Tab in 16GB and 32GB versions. Of course, you can add up to 32GB memory card in the expandable memory slot.

For connectivity, Galaxy Tab will support quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks and tri-band 3G (HSUPA 5.76Mbps, HSDPA 7.2Mbps) networks. There's no mention of the CDMA version of Galaxy Tab that buzzed on the web two days ago. One can always use the Wi-Fi (802.11n) for faster browsing experience and use Bluetooth 3.0 for wireless connectivity with other devices/peripherals.

Galaxy Tab jabs iPad by showing off its 1.3megapixel front camera and 3 megapixel autofocus camera at the back. Also, video calling has been enabled in this Android tablet. Interactive 3D gaming as well as several other apps, Samsung has added Gyroscope sensor and Accelerometer sensors along with Geo-Magnetic sensor.

Users would be able to enjoy full HD movie playback on the 7-inch screen and also read eBooks or magazines on the go using the Readers Hub application. Samsung also packs Swype, an interactive onscreen keyboard input app and ThinkFree Suite that takes cares of your MS Office Documents.

HTC reveals the Desire HD, Desire Z

HTC today gave birth to yet two more phones in its already heavily populated Android stable. The HTC Desire HD is basically an EVO 4G in its GSM form. Many may already know, the EVO 4G is a WiMAX enabled handset sold by American carrier Sprint. The Desire HD gets the Evo 4G's delicious hardware like the huge 4.3-inch LCD display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8 mega-pixel camera with 720p video recording. One could also call the Desire HD as the  Android cousin of the HTC HD2 (which was powered by Windows Mobile 6.5)

The second phone is the Desire Z; also known as the T-mobile G2 in the US. It's 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor and generous 512MB RAM should keep the underlying Android 2.2 OS smooth in operation. User input on a  3.7-inch 800 x 480 pixel capacitive screen is complimented by a sliding QWERTY keyboard. You also have a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with flash and support for 720p video recording.

Both have got HSPA+ that supports a really fast theoretical 14.4Mbps download speed and the regular Wi-fi 802.11n too.
They also come pre-loaded with HTC's Sense UI along with a dedicated HTCSense.com website. You can log into that site for remotely backing up all your data, trigger your phone to ring loudly and even track its real-time location on a map. In an extreme scenario, you can even remotely lock or wipe your phone from that website, if the phone should land into wrong hands.

HTC prepping Android 3.0 Tablet for 2011

HTC prepping Android 3.0 Tablet for 2011Buzz about HTC-Google collaboration for a tablet has sparked over the web again. A few Taiwan based component makers have tipped DigiTimes that HTC is planning to launch Google Android 3.0 running tablet computer by next year. Well, we did see this coming, but weren't sure of the timing. HTC and Google have strong ties ever since the first Android phone was launched.

These Taiwanese component makers believe that HTC has plans to launch Android 3.0 equipped tablet PC in the first quarter of 2011. No further blurb was mentioned about the hardware or the screen size of the tablet. Let's hope that the tablet has something more to offer other than the Android 3.0 OS.

Back in January, Anthony Petts, Australian sales and marketing director at HTC, stated that the company has shelved the plans for the tablet and wanted to focus on smartphones. But we didn't lose hope and knew that the HTC-Google collaboration would be still working on a tablet project. However in April, Eric Schmidt, Google CEO had casually stated that Google is testing the tablet in stealth mode.

Amongst the league of Apple iPad rivals, HTC-Google duo has been the strongest contender. Following these companies, RIM, Nokia, Motorola, and even LG are reportedly planning to release tablets.

Binatone Launches Android Tablet in India

Binatone Launches Android Tablet in India Binatone, a UK based manufacturer of landline phones and GPS devices, has announced the launch of its Android based tablet in India.

The tablet, known as the Home Surf Touch Tablet, comes loaded with Android 1.6 and is quite a sleek looker. It boasts of an 8-inch resistive screen and supports Wi-Fi, 2 GB onboard storage and has 128 MB of RAM. The tablet is powered by an ARM 11 667 MHz processor. While the specs might not be top-of-the-line, you get a decent tablet for the price - especially when you compare the speculated price of the iPad and the Galaxy Tab (which are expected to cost way beyond the Rs. 20k mark) whenever they are launched in India.

Binatone plans to invest Rs. 50 crores in the next 12 months in technology, product development and marketing. A company spokesperson added that Binatone products are  'Indianized' with special features like 'Audio boost', 'Power saver' and 'Binatone Zone', which all have been carefully market researched and implemented to address the specific Indian needs

The Binatone Tablet has been priced at Rs. 8,995 which seems a great price for an Android based tablet. Hopefully, we'd be reviewing one of these soon!

Serene offers you a consummate Bang & Olufsen experience in use, in the hand, and even when turned off. A phone designed for one purpose only communication. Keep Serene with you at all times and experience what it truly means to live with Bang & Olufsen every day.
The idea behind Serene can be seen, touched and heard. Serene offers the basic features that we all want in a mobile phone a choice we are no longer given in the current market. In addition to perfect speech communication, Serene offers SMS, MMS from the built-in camera, and email. This is what a mobile telephone is all about simplicity and convenience.
Serene consists of two equal parts that are tied together by a beautifully crafted aluminium hinge. The display and microphone are placed in the lower shell in a landscape orientation and the circular keyboard and loudspeaker is placed in the upper shell with an elegant thumb operated wheel taking care of all primary operations.

Accordingly, the colours, fonts, screen format and size have been specially selected with logical operation in mind. Restricting the number of features on the handset makes it possible to limit the number of menus, which in turn makes the experience of using Serene both logical and intuitive.

The keypad is arranged around the navigation wheel, and the experience of using Serene is both logical and intuitive
Full DECT integration with our BeoCom 2 and BeoCom 6000 cordless telephones means your address book is constantly updated when Serene is placed in the charger at home
With perhaps the best sound quality in the mobile telephone market, Serene offers excellent speech recognition. The loudspeaker is cleverly placed behind the keypad.
An integral motor opens Serene either by means of gentle finger pressure or automatically when it is in the charger and you receive a call or message.
